Penobscot Nation Boys and
Girls Club director receives national award
March
14, 2007
Carla
Fearon has been recognized by the Board of Directors of the Penobscot
Nation Boys and Girls Club for her work on behalf of the organization.
On Feb, 14, Ron Gurley, chairman of the Native American National
Advisory Committee, presented Fearon with the Native American Service to
Youth Award, which is the committee’s highest national honor.
In a press
release issued by Pamela Colson Powers, board member, Fearon was
described as “a club professional who symbolizes what makes clubs
effective. She understands the importance of the mission of Boys and
Girls Club of America and its significance to the children she serves,
the local Boys and Girls Club, and her community. (She) has provided
positive leadership and motivation to her staff and board of directors
whom she has worked with since 2002. She has been highly instrumental in
securing funding and implementing the highest quality of programs for
the Penobscot Nation youth.”
Fearon was
also inducted as a member of the Native American National Advisory
Committee. The induction will allow her to “help guide” Boys and Girls
Clubs throughout Indian Country nationwide.
“From the
inception of the Penobscot Nation Boys and Girls Club, Carla has worked
tirelessly with great drive, motivation, and passion. Her exemplary
accomplishments have led to our local club being recognized as a mentor
club on a national level. She’s an inspiration to us all---our
community, state, and nation,” Powers said.
Fearon’s
national recognition coincides with the Penobscot Nation Boys and Girls
Club 5th Annual Dinner/Dance/Silent Auction at the
Spectacular Events Center in Bangor on Saturday, March 31. The
fundraiser has been called “essential to the Penobscot Nation Boys and
Girls Club, as well as the celebration of the outstanding achievements
of Carla Fearon, Unit Director.”
