RIVER COALITION ANNOUNCES CHILDREN’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The River Coalition would like to acknowledge the wonderful accomplishments of some of our area school children, since they are such important members of our community.

At Herbert Gray School in Old Town, several third grade students have been recognized.  Veronica Collins received 1st place in the Team Treasure Hunt.  Dylan Borja earned his Cub Scout Skiing Loop & Pin while Brandon Badger was given the Cub Scout Popcorn Sales Award.  Taylor Ploch earned his Cub Scout Bear Badge and came in 3rd in the Pinewood Derby.  Emily Trembley received a hockey award for a shut-out; Matt Foster also received a hockey award.  Peter Vayda accomplished a bike flip.

Robbie Keane of the second grade along with Ariel York and Katelyn Keresey of the first grade each completed the Union 90 Home Fitness Challenge at Alton Elementary School.  Receiving the Most Improved Student Awards for grades 1-5 were Ariel York, Trevor Eastman, Peter Vigneault, Nate Oullette, Kayla Dupont, Vance DeShane, and Jacob Kipping.  Travis Martin of the first grade earned 2nd place in the Maine Dental Health Poster Contest.  Mark Perkins and Trevor Eastman took part in the T.V. Turn-Off Week.  Ariel York of the first grade took part in all six months of the Pizza Hut “Book it” program.   Jacob Kipping was crowned “Snowflake Prince” and Kately DeShane was crowned “Snowflake Princess” at the Alton Winter Carnival Dance.

Dr. Lewis S. Libby School in Milford had several students complete 6 months of the Pizza Hut “Book-it” program, including Chad Collins, Tyler Crouse, Shawna Rustin, Joey Blair, Meagan Cousins, and Sarah Willard.  Tyler Crouse of the second grade also received the Most Improved Student Award.  Taking part in “T.V. Turn-Off Week” were Ali Dubay, Libby Spencer, Jacob Nenty, Elizabeth Bernard, Logan Bard, Brandon Crouse, Ethan Harris, Nathan Gonzalez, Carmen Nickerson, Megan Pattershall, Taylor Flagg, Ashley Rowlett, Brianna Mishou, Ashley England, Kayla Myers, Ashley Abbott, Stephen Lilly, Danielle Harrington, Zachary Willette. Alexander Bernard, Kauri Hamel, Joey Blair, Jake DeRoche, Tyler Crouse, Jacob Bush, and Brittney Tilly.

Mrs. Lucas’s 5th grade class at Helen Hunt School in Old Town won first place in the state in the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl. Her top home reading record holders for the year were Bradie Manion with 21,081 minutes, Emily Yates at 14,035 minutes, and Chase Huckestein with 7,410 minutes.

The River Coalition, a primary prevention group comprised of concerned citizens from Alton, Bradley, Greenbush, Indian Island, Milford, and Old Town, is interested in reporting the accomplishments of children who are not normally recognized.
