News from the River Coalition

Communities That Care (CTC) is a community-wide initiative for the benefit of Alton, Bradley, Greenbush, Indian Island, Milford and Old Town.  It seeks to promote the positive development of children and youth and to assist in the prevention of adolescent problem behaviors-including alcohol and other drug use, delinquency teen pregnancy, dropping out of school and violence.

Old Town, along with the other towns served by the River Coalition, is one of 12 sites across the country using the Communities That Care (CTC) prevention operating system as part of the Community Youth Development Study.  This study will help determine how well the Communities That Care system works to foster healthy youth development in the communities compared with the 12 sites not using the CTC system.  This study will determine whether CTC helps communities reduce levels of risk, increase levels of protection and reduce levels of youth drug use, violence and other problem behaviors.  Your community’s involvement in the Community Youth Development Study will contribute to the development of cutting-edge knowledge on how to foster the healthy development on how to foster the healthy development of youth.

There will be a one day Community Assessment Training on October 2nd at the Earland Sleight Training Center in Old Town from 9:00-4:00.  If you have any question please call Kathryn McGloin at the River Coalition 827-8744.
