The River Coalition Communities Mobilize for Healthy Youth
Thursday and Friday,
December 11th and 12th, River Coalition Inc. area community members will
gather to complete plans to realize their goals of positive development of
children and youth and to assist in the prevention of adolescent problem
behaviors – including alcohol and other drug use, delinquency, teen
pregnancy, dropping out of school and violence. Channing Bete Co. Inc. and
the University of Washington will assist community members in updating a
focused; long-range community action plan for building on existing resources
using a data based community profile. Gaps in resources will be filled with
tested, effective programs to insure youth of the River Coalition community
gain healthy beliefs and clear standards for behavior.

Communities That Care (CTC) is a community-wide
initiative for the benefit of Alton, Bradley, Greenbush, Indian Island,
Milford and Old Town. It
seeks to promote the positive development of children and youth and to
assist in the prevention of adolescent problem behaviors-including alcohol

Communities That Care Program
August 7, 2003
"An Invested Community Raising
Healthy Youth"...this is the vision for the communities of Alton,
Bradley, Greenbush, Indian Island, Milford and Old Town as they begin
implementing the Communities That Care program through the River
Coalition. This will be carried out over the next five years by building
on the significant investments this community has already made to ensure
that their youth are healthy. Partnering with the river Coalition in this
5 year effort are the University of Washington and the Channing-Bete

Towns unite with programs for teens

OLD TOWN--Seven communities along the
Penobscot River have joined forces to prevent teenage drinking and
smoking.
Two programs are being implemented
simultaneously. Old Town's River Coalition has started a project involving
the surrounding communities of Alton, Bradley, Greenbush, Milford and
Indian Island to form a community board for a Communities That Care
